Our final group task

Task Creation:
Task?
In our MITE 6323 class we are asked to create an interactive visual representation which we also called learning object.

What we did?
We decided to use the project of my groupmate in her MITE6313 class.
They were told to create a website and the topic she chose was about "Learning with Computers".

Learning with computers has four categories: Computer Economics, Computer Hardware, Desktop Icons and Computer Software. Under this categories were other subtopics:

  • Computer Economics scopes are Correct Posture, Proper Mouse Usage and Proper Keyboard Usage.

  • Computer Hardware scopes are Input Device, Output Device, Storage Device, Processing Device and CPU

  • Desktop Icons scopes are Windows XP Icons, Application Icons, Internet Icons, File, Filename Parts, File Measurement, Folders and File Address

  • Computer Software scopes are Types of Software

please check out the website for more information: http://iln.cite.hku.hk/com/1374/users/pmcchian/finaltask/comp_basics/comp_hw.html

Since the topic was to broad, we decided to pick the topic "Computer Hardware" and focuses in making a CPU Learning object which will be later embed in the website. This would be more easier for us since all the information needed was already provided in the website.

Final Product:
CPU Learning Object

Description?
This learning object is an interactive CPU. You can explore the buttons, drag objects and click on pictures.

At the first layout you will find a big colorful CPU with two CD drive buttons and one Floppy drive button. If this buttons were clicked, animations of CD or floppy disk will come out containing definition of CPU, How it works and its acronym. A voice recorded will also be your guide while exploring our CPU learning Object.

When begin button is click (which actually serves as the power button in CPU), An intsruction will be read automatically for your assistance. This would be the activity we created for the learners.

When start button is clicked, the different part of the CPU would be visible in the lower box of the CPU. The learners would have to drag the parts in the correspondong position (at the upper box). A transparent image is already provided to act as a hint for the user.

When parts are dragged in their proper places, a definition box would appear defining the part you have just dragged. A recorded voice would be played automatically reading the definitions when definition box comes out.

When Back button is clicked, you would go back directly from the very beginning.

When Again button is clicked, activity would reset.

Use and Value:
This is created to embed to the website called "Learning with Computers". This website can helps the teachers to discuss the simple elements of computers interactively. Since, me and my groupmate (PAULA), both studied IT field and are both currently working as teachers this would help us to teach and guide Primary students pertaining to the Computer Hardware topic. This could be our teaching aid.

Individual Contribution:

We used Paula's project in her previous class (MITE6313) this helps us a lot speacially the informations and pictures she have gathered. We both suggest and comment in every layout we got. We both think of how the learning object would flow and how the actionscripts would be. Paula has a talent in designing stuffs so she designed the CPU layout and asked for my suggestions and comments.

    Dear Diana & Paula,

The learning object with realistic graphics is attractive. The detailed workflow description enhances the learners' understanding. The presentation proved that much doesn't mean good.

    Regards,
    Dorothy

Hi I am Patrick Lai, Ka Ming,

The product is done so well.
The use of color and the drag and drop game is attractive.

A bit recommendation to give is that the interface in the main screen may be improved by letting the user know where the buttons are.

I give this recommendation because I do not know where to click on for me to know more about CPU and so on...

    Hi there,
I love the colors and the wealth of information. I am a computing teacher and the info here is very useful. They are simply, colourful and to the point. The only comment I can recommend is to fit everything into a page of 800x600 pixel.
